Radiating in charm and character, the Old City Quarter is one of the most historic regions of Nanaimo, with developments dating back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. The area has many beautifully restored older homes that maintain their Victorian, Edwardian, and Craftsman styles, but still have all the modern essentials. Some of the character homes have yet to be fully restored, so there are opportunities for fixer upper type homes. As part of the Downtown area, the Old City Quarter also offers newer condos and townhouses if you aren’t looking to purchase an older home.
Once the economic region of Nanaimo, the Old City Quarter has been restored to retail and residential complexes, with some of the best shops, restaurants, and cafes in Nanaimo. Walking in the Old City Quarter is a breeze, as most areas have generous sidewalks, beautiful trees, and well maintained landscapes. The Old City Quarter has great access to transit in Nanaimo, with buses that connect you to all over Nanaimo. The area is only a 5 minute walk to the Downtown area, which offers boutique and houseware shopping, as well as funky cafes, restaurants, thrift shops, and bookstores. Port Place Mall, in the Downtown Area, has Thrifty Foods, London Drugs, and several banking facilities.
